indriyebhyaḥ paraṃ mano manasaḥ sattvamuttamam । sattvādadhi mahānātmā mahato'vyaktamuttamam ॥ 7॥ |
indriyebhyaḥ param manaḥ = the mind is superior to the senses; manasas sattvam uttamam = the “essence of the mind” is better than the mind; sattvāt adhi mahān ātma = higher than the intellect is the Mahat or “great self”; mahataḥ avyaktam uttamam = the unmanifest is superior to the “great self”. |
Beyond the senses is the mind, beyond the mind is the intellect, higher than the intellect is the Great Atman, higher than the Great Atman is the Unmanifest.
