इन्द्रियेभ्यः परं मनो मनसः सत्त्वमुत्तमम् । सत्त्वादधि महानात्मा महतोऽव्यक्तमुत्तमम् ॥ ७॥

indriyebhyaḥ paraṃ mano manasaḥ sattvamuttamam । sattvādadhi mahānātmā mahato'vyaktamuttamam ॥ 7॥

indriyebhyaḥ param manaḥ = the mind is superior to the senses; manasas sattvam uttamam = the “essence of the mind” is better than the mind; sattvāt adhi mahān ātma = higher than the intellect is the Mahat or “great self”; mahataḥ avyaktam uttamam = the unmanifest is superior to the “great self”.
