कठोपनिषत्् (katha upanišad),-कठोपनिषत्् (valli II), (S.-4, Ch.-2, V.-5) |
अविद्यायामन्तरे वर्तमानाः स्वयं धीराः पण्डितंमन्यमानाः । दन्द्रम्यमाणाः परियन्ति मूढा अन्धेनैव नीयमाना यथान्धाः ॥ ५॥ |
avidyāyāmantare vartamānāḥ svayaṃ dhīrāḥ paṇḍitaṃmanyamānāḥ । dandramyamāṇāḥ pariyanti mūḍhā andhenaiva nīyamānā yathāndhāḥ ॥ 5॥ |
vartamānāḥ = living; avidyāyām antare = in the midst of ignorance - being entangled in hundreds of fetters, forged by craving for sons, cattle, etc.; manyamānāḥ = considering; svayam = we ourselves are; dhīrāḥ = intelligent; paṇḍitam = versed in the Scriptures; those; mūḍhāḥ = senseless, non- discriminating people; pariyanti = go round and round; dandramyamāṇāḥ = wise in their own esteem or by following closely the various crooked courses, being afflicted by old age, death, disease, etc.; just as many; andhāḥ = blind people; nīyamānāḥ = being led; andhena eva = by the blind indeed, on an uneven road, come to great calamity. |
Fools dwelling in darkness, but thinking themselves wise and erudite, go round and round, by various tortuous paths, like the blind led by the blind.
