ब्रह्मचारी मिताहारी त्यागी योगपरायणः ।
अब्दादूर्ध्वं भवेत्सिद्धो नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १.५९ |
brahmacārī mitāhārī tyāgī yogaparāyaṇaḥ । abdādūrdhvaṃ bhavetsiddho nātra kāryā vicāraṇā ॥ 1.59 ॥ |
Brahmacārī - following of Brahma;
Mita-āhārī - with balanced food;
Tyāgī - person who gives up, renunciation, detached;
Yoga - yoga;
Paráyanaḥ - (whose) highest goal, main retreat;
Abdāt - one year
Ūrdhvaṁ - to, for;
Bhavet - to become, is;
Siddhaḥ - Perfect;
Na - not;
Atra - here;
Kāryā - is appropriate, is to do;
Vicāraṇā - thinking, doubts, concerns.

Through Brahmacharya, correct diet, detachment (from material objects and pleasures), and dedidcation to the difficult practice of yoga, one gains success, no doubt, within a year.
