शङ्खदुन्धुभिनादं च न शृणोति कदाचन ।
काष्ठवज्जायते देह उन्मन्यावस्थया ध्रुवम् ॥ ४.१०६ ॥ |
śaṅkhadundhubhinādaṃ ca na śṛṇoti kadācana ।
kāṣṭhavajjāyate deha unmanyāvasthayā dhruvam ॥ 4.106 ॥ |
Śaṅkha *: (of) Muschelhörnern (Shankha)
Dundhubhi *: (or) drumming (Dundubhi)
Nādaṃ *: (the) sound, sound (nada)
Ca: and (Cha)
Na: not (Na)
Śṛṇoti: (man) hears (śru)
Kadā-cana: more ("at any time," Kadachana)
Kāṣṭha-vat: (motionless) like a wooden block (Kashtha-vat)
Jāyate: will (jan)
Dehaḥ: the body (Deha)
Unmani: beyond the spirit (Unmani)
Āvasthayā: by the state (Avastha)
Dhruvam: certainly (Dhruva) || 106 ||

In such a state one does not hear even the noise of the conch or drumming. Being in the Unmanî avasthâ, the body
becomes like a piece of wood.
