काष्ठे प्रवर्तितो वह्निः काष्ठेन सह शाम्यति ।
नादे प्रवर्तितं चित्तं नादेन सह लीयते ॥ ४.९८ ॥ |
kāṣṭhe pravartito vahniḥ kāṣṭhena saha śāmyati ।
nāde pravartitaṃ cittaṃ nādena saha līyate ॥ 4.98 ॥ |
Kāṣṭhe: on (a) wooden board (Kashtha)
Pravartitaḥ: (that) burns ("to go to work is effective," Pravartita)
Vahniḥ: (a) fire (Vahni)
Kāṣṭhena: (the burned) wooden log
Saha: along with (Saha)
Śāmyati: leaves ("comes to rest", śam)
Nāde: on (the unpunished) sound (nada)
Pravartitaṃ: concentrated ("lingering")
Cittaṃ: the Spirit (Chitta)
Nādena: with sound, sound
Saha: together
Līyate: dissolves, is absorbed (lī) || 98 ||

Just as fire, catching onto firewood, is then extinguished along with it (after burning it up), so the mind also, by working with Nâda, becomes absorbed along with it.
