बद्धं विमुक्तचाञ्चल्यं नादगन्धकजारणात् ।
मनःपारदं आप्नोति निरालम्बाख्यखेऽटनम् ॥ ४.९६ ॥ |
baddhaṃ vimuktacāñcalyaṃ nādagandhakajāraṇāt ।
manaḥpāradaṃ āpnoti nirālambākhyakhe'ṭanam ॥ 4.96 ॥ |
Baddhaṃ: (if he or she is bound) (Baddha)
Vimukta: liberated (vimukta)
Cāñcalyaṃ: (of his) discontent, liquid (Chanchalya)
Nāda: (in the form of the undefeated) tone (nada)
Gandhaka: (with) sulfur (Gandhaka)
Jāraṇāt: due to reacting, transforming ("oxidizing", Jarana)
Manas: (in the form of) spirit (manas)
Pāradam: (the) Mercury (Parada)
Āpnoti: achieved, obtained (āp)
Nir-ālamba *: without supports (Niralamba)
Ākhya: names ("with the designation", Akhya)
Khe: in the empty space (Kha)
Aṭanam: (the) walking, walking (Atana) || 96 ||

The mind while achieve the properties of calcified mercury. When deprived of its instability it is calcified, combined with the sulphur of the Nâda, and then roams like a sound through the independent âkâśa, or Brahma.
