मनोमत्तगजेन्द्रस्य विषयोद्यानचारिणः ।
समर्थोऽयं नियमने निनादनिशिताङ्कुशः ॥ ४.९१ ॥ |
manomattagajendrasya viṣayodyānacāriṇaḥ ।
samartho'yaṃ niyamane ninādaniśitāṅkuśaḥ ॥ 4.91 ॥ |
Manas: (in the form of) spirit (manas)
Matta: (from a) Brilliant (Matta)
Gaja: elephants (Gaja)
Indrasya: (these) prince (Indra)
Viṣaya: (the) objects of the senses (Vishaya)
Udyāna: (in the garden) (Udyana)
Cāriḥaḥ: (who) roamed (Chara)
Samarthaḥ: is capable of being able (Samartha)
Ayaṃ: this (Ayam)
Niyamane: to curb (Niyamana)
Nināda: (inner unquenched) sound, sound (ninada)
Niśita: (like a) pointed ("sharpened", nishita)
Aṅkuśaḥ: (elephant) sting (Ankusha) || 91 ||

The mind, like an elephant used to wandering in the garden of enjoyment, is capable of being controlled by the sharp goad of the anâhata nâda.
