मकरन्दं पिबन्भृङ्गी गन्धं नापेक्षते यथा ।
नादासक्तं तथा चित्तं विषयान्नहि काङ्क्षते ॥ ४.९० ॥ |
makarandaṃ pibanbhṛṅgī gandhaṃ nāpekṣate yathā ।
nādāsaktaṃ tathā cittaṃ viṣayānnahi kāṅkṣate ॥ 4.90 ॥ |
Makarandaṃ: (the) nectar (a flower, makaranda)
Piban: when she drinks ("drinking", Pa)
Bhṛṅgī: (a big black) bee (bhringi)
Ghandhaṃ: (the) fragrance (Gandha)
Na: not (Na)
Apekṣate: observed (apa + īkṣ)
Yathā: like (Yatha)
Nāde: (to the) sound (nada)
Āsaktaṃ: concentrated ("sticky", asakta)
Tathā: so (Tatha)
Cittaṃ: the Spirit (Chitta)
Viṣayān: (after the) objects of meaning (Vishaya)
Na: not
Hi: sure (hi)
Kāṣkṣate: aspires ("wishes", kāṣkṣ) || 90 ||

Just as a bee, drinking nectar, pays no attention to the fragrance of the flower, so the mind, absorbed in the nâda,
does not desire the objects of sensory pleasure.
