महति श्रूयमाणेऽपि मेघभेर्यादिके ध्वनौ । तत्र सूक्ष्मात्सूक्ष्मतरं नादं एव परामृशेत् ॥ ४.८७ ॥

mahati śrūyamāṇe'pi meghabheryādike dhvanau । tatra sūkṣmātsūkṣmataraṃ nādaṃ eva parāmṛśet ॥ 4.87 ॥

Mahati: (if a) mighty, mighty (Mahat) Śrūyamāṇe: is heard (śru) Api: also, self (Api) Megha: (as from a thunderstorm) cloud (Megha) Bherī: (a) boiler-drum (Bheri) Ādike: etc. ("getting to the top", Adika) Dhvanau: sound, sound (Dhvani) Tatra: with these (different sounds, Tatra) Sūkṣmāt: as subtle, fine (is, sukshma) Sūkṣma-taraṃ: (the) subtle, refined Nādam: (on the) sound (nada) Eva: only (eve) Parāmṛśet: attention should be paid attention (parā + mṛś) || 87 ||


Though one will hear loud sounds like those of thunder, kettle drums, etc., one should practise with the subtle sounds also.
