भ्रुवोर्मध्ये शिवस्थानं मनस्तत्र विलीयते ।
ज्ञातव्यं तत्पदं तुर्यं तत्र कालो न विद्यते ॥ ४.४८ ॥ |
bhruvormadhye śivasthānaṃ manastatra vilīyate ।
jñātavyaṃ tatpadaṃ turyaṃ tatra kālo na vidyate ॥ 4.48 ॥ |
Bhruvoḥ: (the) eyebrows (bhru)
Madhye: between ("in the middle", Madhya)
Śiva: Shivas
Sthānaṃ: (is the) dwelling-place ("place", Sthana)
Manas: the spirit (manas)
Tatra: there (Tatra)
Vilīyate: is absorbed, dissolves, disappears (vi + lī)
Jñātavyaṃ: is to be recognized, understood
Tad: this (Tad)
Padaṃ: Condition, City (Pada)
Turyaṃ: (as the fourth) (Turya)
Tatra: there
Kālaḥ: (the) time, (the) death (Kala)
Na: not (Na)
Vidyate: there is (vid) || 48 ||

The seat of Shiva is between the eyebrows, and the mind becomes absorbed there. This condition (in which the
mind is thus absorbed) is known as Tûrya, and Death has no access there.
