प्रनष्टश्वासनिश्वासः प्रध्वस्तविषयग्रहः ।
निश्चेष्टो निर्विकारश्च लयो जयति योगिनाम् ॥ ४.३१ ॥ |
pranaṣṭaśvāsaniśvāsaḥ pradhvastaviṣayagrahaḥ ।
niśceṣṭo nirvikāraśca layo jayati yoginām ॥ 4.31 ॥ |
Pranaṣṭa: (in which) have disappeared (are, Pranashta)
Śvāsa: Inhalation (Shvasa)
Niśvāsaḥ: (and) exhalation (nishvasa)
Pradhvasta: (in which) vanished (is, Pradhvasta)
Viṣaya: (the) objects of the senses (Vishaya)
Grahaḥ: (the) seizing (Graha)
Niś-ceḥaḥ: (in which there are no movements (of the body, Nishcheshta)
Nir-vikāraḥ: (in which the mind) is free from changes (is, Nirvikara)
Ca: and (Cha)
Layaḥ *: (such a) resolution, absorption (Laya)
Jayati: is successful ("wins", ji)
Yoginām: the yogis, for the yogis || 31 ||

By suspending respiration and annihilating sensory pleasure, when the mind becomes devoid of all activity and remains changeless, then the Yogî achives the Laya Stage.
