मनः स्थैर्यं स्थिरो वायुस्ततो बिन्दुः स्थिरो भवेत् ।
बिन्दुस्थैर्यात्सदा सत्त्वं पिण्डस्थैर्यं प्रजायते ॥ ४.२८ ॥ |
manaḥ sthairyaṃ sthiro vāyustato binduḥ sthiro bhavet ।
bindusthairyātsadā sattvaṃ piṇḍasthairyaṃ prajāyate ॥ 4.28 ॥ |
Manas: (the) spirit (manas)
Sthairye: with ("at") strength (Sthairya)
Sthiraḥ: solid, immovable (Sthira)
Vāyuḥ: (becomes) the life breath, breath, Prana ("wind", Vayu)
Tataḥ: thereby ("consequently," Tatas)
Binduḥ *: (the) seed (bindu)
Sthiraḥ: firm, immovable
Bhavet: will (bhū)
Bindu: of the seed
Sthairyāt: due to immobility
Sadā: always, always (Sada)
Sattvaṃ **: Force (Sattva)
Piṇḍa: (the) body (pinda)
Sthairyaṃ: Strength
Prajāyate: arises (pra + jan) || 28 ||

The breathing is calmed when the mind becomes steady and calm, which preserves the bindu. The preservation of the latter establishes sattva in the body.
