दुग्धाम्बुवत्संमिलितावुभौ तौ
तुल्यक्रियौ मानसमारुतौ हि ।
यतो मरुत्तत्र मनःप्रवृत्तिर्
यतो मनस्तत्र मरुत्प्रवृत्तिः ॥ ४.२४ ॥ |
dugdhāmbuvatsaṃmilitāvubhau tau
tulyakriyau mānasamārutau hi ।
yato maruttatra manaḥpravṛttir
yato manastatra marutpravṛttiḥ ॥ 4.24 ॥ |
Dugdha: (like) milk (Dugdha)
Ambu-vat: (and) water (Ambu-vat)
Collectively: (which) are mixed ("united", Milita)
Ubhau: both (ubha)
Tau: this (Tad)
Tulya: is equal to (Tulya)
Kriyau: (their) activity, efficacy (kriya)
Mānasa: (the) spirit (the "spiritual", Manasa)
Mārutau: (and the) life breath, breath, Prana ("wind", Maruta)
Hi: sure (hi)
Yataḥ: where (Yatas)
Marut: (the) life-breath, breath, prana (to stop, Marut)
Tatra: there (Tatra)
Manas: (the) mind ("thinking", manas)
Pravḥttiḥ: (is the) activity, efficacy (Pravritti)
Yataḥ: where
Manas: the Spirit,
Tatra: there
Marut: (of) life-breath, breath, prana ("wind")

Both the mind and the breath are united together, like a mixture of milk and water, and both of them are equal in their activities. The mind begins its activities where there is breath, and the Parana begins its activities where there is mind.
