पवनो बध्यते येन मनस्तेनैव बध्यते ।
मनश्च बध्यते येन पवनस्तेन बध्यते ॥ ४.२१ ॥ |
pavano badhyate yena manastenaiva badhyate ।
manaśca badhyate yena pavanastena badhyate ॥ 4.21 ॥ |
Pavanaḥ: (the) life breath, breath, prana ("wind", pavana)
Badhyate: held, controlled ("bound", bandh)
Yena: (the yogi) by the ("what", yad)
Manas: the spirit ("thinking", manas)
Tena: by the (Tad)
Eva: just (Eva)
Badhyate: is stopped, controlled ("bound")
Manas: (the) mind ("thinking")
Ca: and (Cha)
Badhyate: held, controlled ("bound")
Yena: (the yogi) by the ("what")
Pavanaḥ: (the) life breath, breath, prana ("wind")
Tena: through the
Badhyate: is stopped, controlled ("bound") || 21 ||

For one who has controlled breathing, the activities of the mind will have also been controlled; and conversely, for one who has controlled the activities of the mind, the breathing will have has been controlled.
