सूर्यचन्द्रमसौ धत्तः कालं रात्रिन्दिवात्मकम् ।
भोक्त्री सुषुम्ना कालस्य गुह्यं एतदुदाहृतम् ॥ ४.१७ ॥ |
sūryacandramasau dhattaḥ kālaṃ rātrindivātmakam ।
bhoktrī suṣumnā kālasya guhyaṃ etadudāhṛtam ॥ 4.17 ॥ |
Sūryā *: Sun (Surya)
Candra-masau *: (and) Moon (the "shimmering moon", Chandramas)
Dhattaḥ: created (dhā)
Kālaṁ: the time (Kala)
Rātrin-diva **: night (and) day (Ratrindiva)
Ātmakam: in the form of ("with the essence of", Atmaka)
Bhoktrī: (is a) consumers ("eaters", Bhoktri)
Suṣumnā: (the) Sushumna
Kālasya: the time
Guhyam: (a) secret (guhya)
Etad: this, this (Etad)
Udāhṛtam: is called (Udahrita) || 17 ||

Time, in the form of night and day, is made by the sun and the moon. That the Sushumnâ devours even this time (Death) is a great secret.
