दुर्लभो विषयत्यागो दुर्लभं तत्त्वदर्शनम् ।
दुर्लभा सहजावस्था सद्गुरोः करुणां विना ॥ ४.९ ॥ |
durlabho viṣayatyāgo durlabhaṃ tattvadarśanam ।
durlabhā sahajāvasthā sadguroḥ karuṇāṃ vinā ॥ 4.9 ॥ |
Dur-labhaḥ: difficult to achieve (Durlabha)
Viṣaya *: (the) Sense objects (Vishaya)
Tyāgaḥ *: (is the) renunciation (Tyaga)
Dur-labhaṁ: difficult to achieve
Tattva **: (the) truth ("So-sein", Tattva)
Darśanam **: (is the immediate) realization ("looking," Darshana)
Dur-labhā: difficult to achieve
Sahaja: (is the) natural (sahaja)
Avasthā: Condition (Avastha)
Sat: (one) true (sat)
Guroḥ: Master, Teacher (Guru)
Karuṁāṁ: (the) compassion, the compassionate grace (Karuna)
Vinā: without (vina) || 9 ||

Indifference to worldly pleasures is very difficult to achieve, and equally difficult to attain is the knowledge of Truth. It is very difficult to achieve the condition of Samâdhi without the compassionate aid of a true guru.
