मत्स्येन्द्रपीठं जठरप्रदीप्तिं प्रचण्डरुग्मण्डलखण्डनास्त्रम् ।
अभ्यासतः कुण्डलिनीप्रबोधं चन्द्रस्थिरत्वं च ददाति पुंसाम् ॥ १.२९ ॥ |
matsyendrapīṭhaṃ jaṭharapradīptiṃ pracaṇḍarugmaṇḍalakhaṇḍanāstram ।
abhyāsataḥ kuṇḍalinīprabodhaṃ candrasthiratvaṃ ca dadāti puṃsām ॥ 1.29 ॥ |
Matsyendra - Matsyendra (ásana);
Pīthaṁ - seat;
Jaṭhara - the stomach, digestion fire;
Pradīptiṁ - blazing;
Pracaṇḍa - exceedingly violent, fierce, terrible;
Ruj - disease;
Maṇḍala - a lot of, crowd, circle;
Khaṇḍana - breaking down, remove;
Astram - is a weapon;
Abhyāsataḥ - due to practice, by practicing;
Kuṇḍalinī - Kundalini;
Prabodhaṁ - awakening;
Candra - The moon (the "drop" Bindu, the nectar);
Sthiratvaṁ - stability, immobility, strength;
Ca - and;
Dadāti - gives, gives, causes;
Puṁsām - the people.

The matsyendrásana posiion increases the digestive fire and is an instrument for destroying the most deadly diseases. Its practice awakens the Kundalinî and stabilizes the "lunar nectar".
