प्रसार्य पादौ भुवि दण्डरूपौ दोर्भ्यां पदाग्रद्वितयं गृहीत्वा ।
जानूपरिन्यस्तललाटदेशो वसेदिदं पश्चिमतानं आहुः ॥ १.३० ॥ |
prasārya pādau bhuvi daṇḍarūpau dorbhyāṃ padāgradvitayaṃ gṛhītvā ।
jānūparinyastalalāṭadeśo vasedidaṃ paścimatānaṃ āhuḥ ॥ 1.30 ॥ |
Prasārya - stretching;
Pādau - both legs;
Bhuvi - on the earth, ground;
Daṇḍa - sticks;
Rūpau - similar to, the form;
Dorbhyāṁ - with the hands;
Pada - feet;
Agra - Tips;
Dvitayaṁ - the two, couple;
Gṛhītvā - grasping, holding;
Jānu - knee;
Upari - over, on;
Nyasta - depositing, inclination;
Lalāṭa - forehead;
Deśaḥ - area;
Vased - to dwell;
Idaṁ - that, this;
Paścima - back; the West;
Tānam - stretching, expansion;
Āhuḥ - is called.

While seated, extend the legs along the ground, straight like a stick, grasped the big toes of both feet with both
hands, and rest your forehead on your knees; this position is called Pashchimatánásana.
