पादाङ्गुष्ठौ तु पाणिभ्यां गृहीत्वा श्रवणावधि ।
धनुराकर्षणं कुर्याद्धनुरासनं उच्यते ॥ १.२७ ॥ |
pādāṅguṣṭhau tu pāṇibhyāṃ gṛhītvā śravaṇāvadhi ।
dhanurākarṣaṇaṃ kuryāddhanurāsanaṃ ucyate ॥ 1.27 ॥ |
Pāda-aṣṭguṣṭhau - both toes;
Tu - them;
Pāṇibhyāṁ - with both hands;
Gṛhītvā - holding;
Śravaṇa: ear;
Avadhi - to the border or edge;
Dhanus - bow;
Ākarṇaṁaṁ - tensioning;
Kuryāt - to do or make or execute;
Dhanur-āsanam - arch position or bow posture;
Ucyate - is called.

(The basic posture is that of lying on your belly). Grasp the toes of both feet with your hands and lift the feet to the edges of your ears by arching the body like a bow - holding the body like this is called Dhanurásana.
