कुक्कुटासनबन्धस्थो दोर्भ्यां सम्बद्य कन्धराम् । भवेद्कूर्मवदुत्तान एतदुत्तानकूर्मकम् ॥ १.२६ ॥

kukkuṭāsanabandhastho dorbhyāṃ sambadya kandharām । bhavedkūrmavaduttāna etaduttānakūrmakam ॥ 1.26 ॥

Kukkuṭa-āsana - cock position; Bandha-sthaḥ - remain locked; Dorbhyāṁ - (let be the hips on ground) with both forearms; Sambadhya - enclosing or hold; Kandharām - the neck; Bhavet - to be (in posture); Kūrma-vat - like a turtle; Uttānaḥ - raise (knees and thigh); Etad - that is or this is; Uttāna-kūrmakam - called as Uttanakurmaka "the Standing Tortoise"


When in Kukkutásana, release your hips back to the ground, raise your knees, and hold your neck with your interconnected hands (passed through the knees and thighs) - persisting in this positoin is called Uttána Kúrmásana (Standing Tortoise).
