पुच्छे प्रगृह्य भुजङ्गीं सुप्तां उद्बोधयेच्च ताम् ।
निद्रां विहाय सा शक्तिरूर्ध्वं उत्तिष्ठते हठात् ॥ ३.१११ ॥ |
pucche pragṛhya bhujaṅgīṃ suptāṃ udbodhayecca tām ।
nidrāṃ vihāya sā śaktirūrdhvaṃ uttiṣṭhate haṭhāt ॥ 3.111 ॥ |
Pucche: on the tail (Puchchha)
Pragṛhya: grasping ("taking hold", pra + grah)
Bhujaṅgīṁ: snake (Bhujangi)
Suptām: sleeping (supta)
Udbodhayet: to awaken (ud + budh)
Ca: and, but (Cha)
Tām: the (Tad)
Nidrāṁ: (the) sleep (nidra)
Vihāya: surrendering, leaving (vi + hā)
Sā: this (Tad)
Śaktiḥ: energy, power (Shakti)
Ūrdhvam: upwards, upwards (Urdhva)
Uttiṣṭhate: moves ("stands up, rises", ud + sthā)
Haṭhāt: with power, inevitably, undeterred (Hatha) || 111 ||

This sleeping she-serpent should be awakened by catching hold of her tail. By the force of Hatha, the Shakti
leaves her sleep and moves upwards.
