पद्मासनं तु संस्थाप्य जानूर्वोरन्तरे करौ ।
निवेश्य भूमौ संस्थाप्य व्योमस्थं कुक्कुटासनम् ॥ १.२५ ॥ |
padmásanaṃ tu saṃsthápja džánúrvorantare karao ।
nivéšja bhúmau saṃsthápja vjómasthaṃ kukkuṭásanam ॥ 1.25 ॥ |
Padma-āsanaṁ - Lotus posture;
Tu - again (Tu);
Saṁsthāpya - to establish;
Jānu - knee;
Ūrvoḥ - and thigh;
Antare - (space) between;
Karau - both hands;
Niveśya - stuck or pass through;
Bhūmau - on the earth (ground);
Saṁsthāpya - supporting on (earth);
Vyoma-sthaṁ - reserve direction (raise body upward);
Kukkuṭa-āsanam - is called as cook posture (Kukkutasana).

When the body is held in Padmásana [Lotus Pose] and, passing both hands through the space between the thighs and knees, the hands are fixed to the ground and the body is raised into the air above the ground; this position is called Kukkutásana.
