गुदं निरुध्य गुल्फाभ्यां व्युत्क्रमेण समाहितः ।
कूर्मासनं भवेदेतदिति योगविदो विदुः ॥ १.२४ ॥ |
Ghudam nirudhya ghulphābhyām vyutkramena samāhitah
Kūrmāsanam bhavedetaditi yogavido viduh |
Gudaṁ - (the) anus;
Nirudhya - press to close;
Gulphābhyāṁ - with both ankles;
Vyutkrameṇa - opposite ot each other;
Samāhitaḥ - fixed;
Kūrma-āsanaṁ - turtle position;
Bhavet - should be, be, or as;
Etad - that, this (position);
Iti - so;
Yoga-vidaḥ - Yogic methods;
Viduḥ - know;

While seated, placing the right ankle (heel) on the left side of anus, and the left ankle (heel) on the right side of the anus; this is what the Yogís call Kúrmásana.
