अथ विपरीतकरणी मुद्रा तत्रास्ति करणं दिव्यं सूर्यस्य मुखवञ्चनम् । गुरूपदेशतो ज्ञेयं न तु शास्त्रार्थकोटिभिः ॥ ३.७८ ॥

atha viparītakaraṇī mudrā tatrāsti karaṇaṃ divyaṃ sūryasya mukhavañcanam । gurūpadeśato jñeyaṃ na tu śāstrārthakoṭibhiḥ ॥ 3.78 ॥

Atha: now (follows, Atha) Viparīta-karaṇī: (named) Viparita Karani Mudrā: (the) seal (mudra) Tatra: in this (context, Tatra) Asti: there are (as) Karaṁaṁ: means (Karana) Divyaṁ: (a) heavenly, divine (divya) Sūryasya: the sun (Surya) Mukha: (the) mouth (Mukha) Vañcanam: (to) avoid ("deceiving", Vanchana) Guru: (one) teacher, master (guru) Upadeśataḥ: by the instruction (Upadesha) Jñeyaṁ: (this) is to learn to meet (Jneya) Na: not (Na) Tu: but, however, (Tu) Śāstra: (in the) textbooks (Shastra) Artha: Things, facts, meanings (Artha) Koṭibhiḥ: by (studying) ten million (Koti) || 78 ||


The Sûrya is above the navel and the Chandra is below the palate. The exercise called the Viparîta Karanî is learned by following a guru's instructions.
