बध्नाति हि सिराजालं अधोगामि नभोजलम् ।
ततो जालन्धरो बन्धः कण्ठदुःखौघनाशनः ॥ ३.७१ ॥ |
badhnāti hi sirājālaṃ adhogāmi nabhojalam ।
tato jālandharo bandhaḥ kaṇṭhaduḥkhaughanāśanaḥ ॥ 3.71 ॥ |
Badhnāti: (es) connects, stops (resp.) (Bandh)
Hi: because (hi)
Sirā: (the) vessels, canals (Nadis, Sira)
Jālam: (the) net (work), web (jala)
Adhas-gāmi: (the) descending ("going down", Adhas Gamin)
Nabhas: (the) heaven (nabha)
Jalam: water (jala)
Tataḥ: therefore, therefore (Tatas)
Jālan-dharaḥ: Jalandhara (the "holding the net")
Bandhaḥ: (means this) closure (bandha)
Kaṇṭha: the throat (Kantha)
Duḥkha: suffering (Duhkha)
Ogha: all ("the crowd, flood", Ogha)
Nāśanaḥ: (a means for) distributing (Nashana) || 71 ||

It stops the opening (hole) of the group of Nâdîs, through which the nectar from the "heavens" (from the Soma/
Chandra in the brain) drips down. It is, therefore, called the Jâlandhara Bandha — the destroyer of a host of
diseases of the throat.
