अथ जलन्धरबन्धः
कण्ठं आकुञ्च्य हृदये स्थापयेच्चिबुकं दृढम् ।
बन्धो जालन्धराख्योऽयं जरामृत्युविनाशकः ॥ ३.७० ॥ |
atha jalandharabandhaḥ
kaṇṭhaṃ ākuñcya hṛdaye sthāpayeccibukaṃ dṛḍham ।
bandho jālandharākhyo'yaṃ jarāmṛtyuvināśakaḥ ॥ 3.70 ॥ |
Atha: now (follows, Atha)
Jalandhara-bandhaḥ: Jalandhara Bandha
Kaṇṭham: the throat (Kantha)
Ākuñcya: after having contracted (ā + kuñc)
Hṛdaye *: on the chest ("the heart", Hridaya)
Sthāpayet: set (sthā)
Cibukaṁ: (the) chin (chibuka)
Dṛḍham: solid (dridha)
Bandhaḥ: closure (bandha)
Jālandhara: Jalandhara (the "holding the net")
Ākhyaḥ: means ("has the name", Akhya)
Ayaṁ: this (ayam)
Jarā: (of) Age (yy)
Mṛtyu: (and) death (Mrityu)
Vināśakaḥ: (he is a) destroyer (Vinashaka) || 70 ||

Contract the throat and press the chin firmly against the chest. This is called Jâlandhara Bandha, which destroys
old age and death.
