अपान ऊर्ध्वगे जाते प्रयाते वह्निमण्डलम् ।
तदानलशिखा दीर्घा जायते वायुनाहता ॥ ३.६६ ॥ |
apāna ūrdhvage jāte prayāte vahnimaṇḍalam ।
tadānalaśikhā dīrghā jāyate vāyunāhatā ॥ 3.66 ॥ |
Apāne: (if the) downward flowing energy ("wind", Apana)
Ūrdhva-ge: to flow upwards ("one is going up", Urdhva Ga)
Jāte: starts (Jata)
Prayāte: (she) moves ("makes himself", Prayata)
Vahni: (the) fire (Vahni)
Maṇḍalam: (in the) region ("circle", mandala)
Tadā: then (Tada)
Anala: (this) fire (anala)
Śikhā: the flame (Shikha)
Dīrghā: large ("long", Dirgha)
Jāyate: will (jan)
Vāyunā: (because they) through (Apana) Vayu, ("Wind")
Āhatā: touches ("hit, beaten") (Ahata) || 66 ||

Going up, the Apâna Vayu enters the zone of fire, i.e., the stomach. When this air strikes the flames, it lengthens them.
