जानूर्वोरन्तरे सम्यक्कृत्वा पादतले उभे । ऋजुकायः समासीनः स्वस्तिकं तत्प्रचक्षते ॥ १.२१ ॥

jānūrvorantare samyakkṛtvā pādatale ubhe । ṛjukāyaḥ samāsīnaḥ svastikaṃ tatpracakṣate ॥ 1.21 ॥

Janu - knee; Ūrvoḥ - (and) thigh; Antare - between; Samyak - in the same way; Kṛtvā - to do, to make; Pāda-tale - soles of the feet; Ubhe - facing up; Ṛju - upright, straight; Kāyaḥ - body; Samāsīnaḥ - comfortable sitting; Svastikaṁ - Svastika (crossed seat); Tad - that, this (seating position); Pracakṣate - is called.


The position in which the sole of each foot rests on the opposite thigh above the knee, with the bottom of each foot turned upward, with the correct bodily posture (neck and spine aligned); when one sits holding this position calmly, it is called Svastika.
