नाभेरूर्ध्वं अधश्चापि तानं कुर्यात्प्रयत्नतः ।
षण्मासं अभ्यसेन्मृत्युं जयत्येव न संशयः ॥ ३.५९ ॥ |
nābherūrdhvaṃ adhaścāpi tānaṃ kuryātprayatnataḥ ।
ṣaṇmāsaṃ abhyasenmṛtyuṃ jayatyeva na saṃśayaḥ ॥ 3.59 ॥ |
Nābheḥ: of the navel, of the navel (Nabhi)
Ūrdhvam: (the area) above, upwards, upwards (Urdhva)
Adhaḥ: (the area) below, down, down (Adhas)
Ca: and (Cha)
Api: also (Api)
Tānaṁ: (one) ("stretching," Tana)
Kuryāt: get out ("make", kṛ)
Prayatnataḥ: eager, to the best, willingly (Prayatna)
Ṣaṣ: six (shash)
Māsam: months (long, masa)
Abhyaset: (man) practice, practice (this, abhi + as)
Mṛtyuṁ: (the) death (Mrityu)
Jayati: (then) defeated (man, Ji)
Eva: certainly (Eva)
Na: not (Na)
Saṁśayaḥ: (consists of a) doubt (Samshaya) || 59 ||

The portions of the abdomen above and below the navel should be drawn backwards towards the spine. By practising this for six months one can undoubtedly conquer death.
