यत्प्रालेयं प्रहितसुषिरं मेरुमूर्धान्तरस्थं
तस्मिंस्तत्त्वं प्रवदति सुधीस्तन्मुखं निम्नगानाम् ।
चन्द्रात्सारः स्रवति वपुषस्तेन मृत्युर्नराणां
तद्बध्नीयात्सुकरणं अधो नान्यथा कायसिद्धिः ॥ ३.५२ ॥ |
yatprāleyaṃ prahitasuṣiraṃ merumūrdhāntarasthaṃ
tasmiṃstattvaṃ pravadati sudhīstanmukhaṃ nimnagānām ।
candrātsāraḥ sravati vapuṣastena mṛtyurnarāṇāṃ
tadbadhnīyātsukaraṇaṃ adho nānyathā kāyasiddhiḥ ॥ 3.52 ॥ |
Yad: the ("the one", Yad)
Prāleyaṁ: nectar ("snow, melting water", Praleya)
Prahita: rising ("outcast", Prahita)
Suṁiraṁ: (in the) cavity (Sushira)
Meru: (the mountain) Meru (the spine or Sushumna)
Mūrdhan: (the) peak ("head", Murdhan)
Antara-sthaṁ: located in the inner (Antara)
Tasmin: in this (cavity, Tad)
Tattvaṁ *: (the highest) truth (the "So-sein", Tattva)
Pravadati: recognizes ("proclaimed", pra + vad)
Su-dhīḥ: (the) way ("with good insight", Dhi)
Tad: this (cavity, tad)
Mukhaṁ: (is the) origin ("mouth", Mukha)
Nimna-gānām **: the rivers (Nimnaga, that is, the Nadis)
Candrāt: from the "moon" (Chandra)
Sāraḥ: the nectar, the essence (sara)
Sravati: flows, flows (down, sṛ)
Vapuḥaḥ: the body (vapus)
Tena: out of it (Tad)
Mṛtyuḥ: (the result) death (Mrityu)
Narāṁāṁ: the people (Nara)

On the top of the merû (the vertebral column), concealed in a hole, is the Somarasa (the nectar of Chandra); the wise, whose intellect is not overpowered by the Rajas and Tamas gunas, but in whom the Sattva guna is predominant, say that the âtma (universal spirit) is there. It is the source of the descending Idâ, Pingalâ and Sushumnâ Nâdis, which are called the Ganges, the Yamuna and the Sarashvati. The essence of the body drips from the Chandra, and this causes the death of mortals. It should, therefore, be prevented from descending. This (Khechari Mudrâ) is a very good instrument for this purpose. There is no other means of achieving this end.
