गोशब्देनोदिता जिह्वा तत्प्रवेशो हि तालुनि ।
गोमांसभक्षणं तत्तु महापातकनाशनम् ॥ ३.४८ ॥ |
gośabdenoditā jihvā tatpraveśo hi tāluni ।
gomāṃsabhakṣaṇaṃ tattu mahāpātakanāśanam ॥ 3.48 ॥ |
Go: "cow" (go)
Śabdena: with the word (Shabda)
Uditā: is called (here) (Udita)
Jihvā: the tongue (Jihva)
Tad: the same (the tongue, Tad)
Praveśaḥ: (the) introduction ("Hineintreten", Pravesha)
Hi: because (hi)
Tāluni: (in the opening) in the palate (Talu)
Go: the cow
Māṁsa: (the) flesh (mamsa)
Bhakṇaṁaṁ: (is designated as that) food (Bhakshana)
Tad: this
Tu: but, again (Tu)
Mahā: (from) large (Maha)
Pātaka: Sins, Crimes (Pataka)
Nāśanam: (is a means of distributing, destroying (Nashana) || 48 ||

The word गो ("cow") here means the tongue; "eating" it means thrusting it into the gullet. This destroys great sins.
