रसनां ऊर्ध्वगां कृत्वा क्षणार्धं अपि तिष्ठति ।
विषैर्विमुच्यते योगी व्याधिमृत्युजरादिभिः ॥ ३.३८ ॥ |
rasanāṃ ūrdhvagāṃ kṛtvā kṣaṇārdhaṃ api tiṣṭhati ।
viṣairvimucyate yogī vyādhimṛtyujarādibhiḥ ॥ 3.38 ॥ |
Rasanām: the tongue (Rasana)
Ūrdhva-gāṁ: to the top (Urdhva) ("walking", Ga)
Kṛtvā: holding ("making", kṛ)
Kṇaṇa *: (one) Kshana ("moment", a time unit)
Ardham: (for the) half (Ardha)
Api: also, even (api)
Tiṣṭhati: (which) remains, dwells (sthā)
Viḥaiḥ: from (the effect of) poisons (visha)
Vimucyate: (the) is liberated (vi + muc)
Yogī: (a) yogin
Vyādhi: disease (vyadhi)
Mṛtyu: death (Mrityu)
Jarā: Age (Jara)
Ādibhiḥ: etc. (Adi) || 38 ||

The yogî who sits for a minute turning his tongue upwards is saved from poisons, diseases, death, old age, etc.
