स्नुहीपत्रनिभं शस्त्रं सुतीक्ष्णं स्निग्धनिर्मलम् ।
समादाय ततस्तेन रोममात्रं समुच्छिनेत् ॥ ३.३४ ॥ |
snuhīpatranibhaṃ śastraṃ sutīkṣṇaṃ snigdhanirmalam ।
samādāya tatastena romamātraṃ samucchinet ॥ 3.34 ॥ |
Snuhī: (the) Oleanderwolf's milk (Snuhi)
Pattra: (the) sheet (Pattra)
Nibhaṁ: similar (of the form, nibha)
Śastraṁ: (a) knife (Shastra)
Su-tīkṁaṁ: very sharp (Tikshna)
Snigdha: smooth (snigdha)
Nir-malam: (and) clean (nirmala)
Samādāya: take (taking ", sam + ā + dā)
Tataḥ: then (Tatas)
Tena: thus (Tad)
Roma: (one) hair (novel)
Mātraṁ: around the width ("the measure", Matra)
Samucchinet *: you cut into the tongues (sam + ud + chid) || 34 ||

Taking a sharp, smooth, and clean instrument the shape of a cactus needle, the frænum of the tongue should be cut just a little (as much as a hair's thickness) at a time.
