समहस्तयुगो भूमौ स्फिचौ सनाडयेच्छनैः । पुटद्वयं अतिक्रम्य वायुः स्फुरति मध्यगः ॥ ३.२७ ॥

samahastayugo bhūmau sphicau sanāḍayecchanaiḥ । puṭadvayaṃ atikramya vāyuḥ sphurati madhyagaḥ ॥ 3.27 ॥

Sama: flat ("even", sama) Hasta: hands (Hasta) Yugaḥ: (the Yogi, with his) two ("couple", Yuga) Bhūmau: on the earth (Bhumi) Sphicau: (the) buttocks ("the two buttocks", Sphich) Santāḍayet: strike (the ground, sam + taḍ) Śanaiḥ: slow (shanais) Puṭa (channels of energy) (Puta, meaning Ida and Pingala) Dvayam: (the) both (others, Dvaya) Atikramya: leaving (ati + kram) Vāyuḥ: (the) life breath, Prana ("wind", Vayu) Sphurati: breaks out ("shrugs", sphur) Madhya-gaḥ: walking in the middle (Madhya channel) (Ga, i.e., flowing in Sushumna) || 27 ||


Resting both the hands equally on the ground, the yogi should push against the ground, lift the body, and repeatedly strike the buttocks against the ground, gently. The prana, leaving the Idâ and Pingalâ passages, starts flowing into the middle one.
