अथ महावेधः
महाबन्धस्थितो योगी कृत्वा पूरकं एकधीः ।
वायूनां गतिं आवृत्य निभृतं कण्ठमुद्रया ॥ ३.२६ ॥ |
atha mahāvedhaḥ
mahābandhasthito yogī kṛtvā pūrakaṃ ekadhīḥ ।
vāyūnāṃ gatiṃ āvṛtya nibhṛtaṃ kaṇṭhamudrayā ॥ 3.26 ॥ |
Atha: now (follows, Atha)
Mahā-vedhaḥ: Maha Vedha (the "great breakthrough")
Mahā-bandha: (in) Maha Bandha
Sthitaḥ: (who is) (Sthita)
Yogī: (the) yogi
Kṛtvā: after (he) has executed (kṛ)
Pūrakam: (the) Inhalation (Puraka)
Eka-dhīḥ *: with concentrated mind ("one mind", Eka-dhhi)
Vāyūnāṁ **: the (respiratory or body) wind (Vayu, i.e., of Prana and the rest of the "body winds")
Gatim: (the) course (gati), (the) movement (s up and down)
Āvṛtya: inhibiting, obstructing ("closing", ā + vṛ)
Nibhṁtaṁ: solid, immovable, still (Nibhrita)
Kaṇṭha: (the) throat (Kantha, i.e., by Jalandhara Bandha)
Mudrayā: with the seal (Mudra, continuation in verse 27) || 26 ||

Sitting with the Mahâ Bandha, the yogî should inhale and keep the mind collected. The movements of the Vâyus (Prâna and Apâna) should be stopped by closing the throat).
