अथ उज्जायी मुखं संयम्य नाडीभ्यां आकृष्य पवनं शनैः । यथा लगति कण्ठात्तु हृदयावधि सस्वनम् ॥ २.५१ ॥

atha ujjāyī mukhaṃ saṃyamya nāḍībhyāṃ ākṛṣya pavanaṃ śanaiḥ । yathā lagati kaṇṭhāttu hṛdayāvadhi sasvanam ॥ 2.51 ॥

Atha - now Ujjāyī - Ujjayi Mukhaṁ - mouth Saṁyamya - Having closed Nāḍībhyām - through both nastrils Ākṛṣya - retracting Pavanaṁ - air, vayu, Śanais - slow, gradual Yathā - so that Lagati - touches, snuggles Kaṇṭhāt - throat Tu - from Hṛdaya - the heart Avadhi - to the border Sa-svanam - with sound || 51 ||


Having closed the mouth, inhale slowly through both nostrils in such a way that it (the breath) makes a sound (the sound of inhalation) and it (the breath) can be felt to fill the entire heart region (chest) through the throat.
