हठविद्या परं गोप्या योगिना सिद्धिं इच्छता । भवेद्वीर्यवती गुप्ता निर्वीर्या तु प्रकाशिता ॥ १.११ ॥ |
haṭhavidyā paraṃ gopyā yoginā siddhiṃ icchatā । bhavedvīryavatī guptā nirvīryā tu prakāśitā ॥ 1.11 ॥ |
| Haṭha - the Hatha (yoga)
Vidyā - the knowledge;
Paraṁ - extremely high;
Gopyā - keeping secret;
Yoginā - yogi;
Siddhim - secret power;
Icchatā - wishes;
Bhavet - (she) is;
Vīrya-vatī - powerful;
Guptā - (when) hidden, kept secret;
Nirvīryā - powerless, ineffective;
Tu - however;
Prakāśitā - (when) disclosed. |
A Yogî desirous of success should keep the knowledge of Hatha Yoga secret, for it becomes potent through secrecy and and impotent through exposure. |
