अशेषतापतप्तानां समाश्रयमठो हठः ।
अशेषयोगयुक्तानां आधारकमठो हठः ॥ १.१० ॥ |
aśeṣatāpataptānāṃ samāśrayamaṭho haṭhaḥ ।
aśeṣayogayuktānāṃ ādhārakamaṭho haṭhaḥ ॥ 1.10 ॥ |
Aśeṣa - all;
Tāpa - agony;
Taptānāṁ - for those who are tormented;
Samāśraya - to grant a shelter;
Mathó - a hut or hermitage or house;
Hatah - hard or determined;
Aśeṣa - complete, all
Yoga - in yoga practices
Yuktānām - for those who are concentrated, submerged, leaned;
Ādhāra - base, support, firm foundation;
Kamató - like a turtle;
Hataḥ - Hatha yoga.

Just as a house protects one from the heat of the sun, Hatha Yoga protects the practitioner from the burning heat of Tâpas, like a turtle's shell protects the turtle's body.
