अथ गजकरणी उदरगतपदार्थं उद्वमन्ति पवनं अपानं उदीर्य कण्ठनाले । क्रमपरिचयवश्यनाडिचक्रा गजकरणीति निगद्यते हठज्ञैः ॥ २.३८ ॥

atha gajakaraṇī udaragatapadārthaṃ udvamanti pavanaṃ apānaṃ udīrya kaṇṭhanāle । kramaparicayavaśyanāḍicakrā gajakaraṇīti nigadyate haṭhajñaiḥ ॥ 2.38 ॥

Atha - now Gaja-karaṇī - Elephant Action Udara - belly Gata - arrived Pada-artham - things, material Udvamanti - vomit Pavanam - air Apānam - Apana Udīrya - raised Kaṇṭha - throat Nāle - into the tube Krama - gradual, systematic Paricaya - exercise, practice, repetition Vaśya - controllable Nāḍi - fine-energy channels Cakrā - the circle Gaja-karaṇī - Elephant Action Iti - so Nigadyate - is called Haṭha-jñaiḥ - knowledge of the Hatha || 38 ||


By carrying the Apâna Vâyû up to the throat, the material in the belly (the stomach) is vomited. Through this systematic procedure one controls the Nadi system. This is called Gaja Karani in Hatha.
