अर्जुन उवाच कथं भीष्ममहं संख्ये द्रोणं च मधुसूदन । इषुभिः प्रति योत्स्यामि पूजार्हावरिसूदन ॥२- ४॥

arjuna uvāca kathaṃ bhīṣmamahaṃ saṃkhye droṇaṃ ca madhusūdana । iṣubhiḥ prati yotsyāmi pūjārhāvarisūdana ॥2- 4॥

अर्जुन arjunas (m. nom. sg.), = Arjuna.; उवाच uvaca (3rd sg. perfect act. Jvac), = he said, he spoke. कथं katham (interrog.), = how? in what way? (m. acc. sg.),भीष्म Bhisma, the old Kau- rava warrior, great uncle of Arjuna.; अहम aham (nom. sg.), = I.; संख्ये samkhye (n. loc. sg.), = in battle, in conflict.; द्रोणं droṇaṃ (m. acc. sg.), = droṇaṃ, a brahman and Arjuna's teacher, fighting on the Kaurava side.; च ca, = and.; मधुसूदन madhusūdana (m. voc. sg.), = Slayer of Madhu, epithet of Krishna.; इषुभिः iṣubhiḥ (m. inst. pl.), = by arrows, with arrows.; प्रति योत्स्यामि prati yotsyāmi (1st sg. fut. prati *yudh) , I shall fight against, I shall attack.; पूजा puja (f.), = reverence, honor, veneration.; अर्हाव arhau (m. acc. dual), = worthy, deserving.
