गुरूनहत्वा हि महानुभावान् श्रेयो भोक्तुं भैक्ष्यमपीह लोके । हत्वार्थकामांस्तु गुरूनिहैव भुञ्जीय भोगान् रुधिरप्रदिग्धान् ॥२- ५॥

gurūnahatvā hi mahānubhāvān śreyo bhoktuṃ bhaikṣyamapīha loke । hatvārthakāmāṃstu gurūnihaiva bhuñjīya bhogān rudhirapradigdhān ॥2- 5॥

गुरून gurun (m. acc. pl.); elders, gurus, teachers.; अहत्वा ahatvā (gerund a ..; *han), = not slaying, instead of slaying.; हि hi, = indeed, in truth.; महानुभावान् mahānubhāvān (m. acc. pl.), = of great might, mighty, high-minded, noble, generous.; श्रेयो sreyas (comparative) better, preferable.; भोक्तुं bhoktum (infinitive *bhuj), = to eat, to enjoy.;भैक्ष्यम bhaikṣyam (n. acc. sg.), = living on alms, begging, mendicancy.; अपि api, = even, also.; इह iha, = here, here in the world, here below.; loke (m. loco sg.), = on earth.; हत्वा hatvā(gerund *han), = having slain, slaying.; अर्थ artha (m.), = gains, property, booty, object.; कामां kāmān (m. acc. pl.), = desires, greed. (arthakaman, m. acc. pI. BY cpd., desirous of gain.); अस्तु tu, = indeed, but.; gurun (m. acc. pl.), = elders, gurus, teachers.; इह iha, = here on earth, here in the world.; एव eva, = indeed (used as a rhythmic filler).; भुञ्जीय bhuñjīya (1st sg. opt. mid . .*bhu}), = I should enjoy, I should eat.; भोगान् bhogan (m. acc. pl.), = enjoyments, pleasures. रुधिर rudhira (adj.), = red, bloody.; प्रदिग्धान् pradigdhān (m. acc. pI. from pra .*dih) , smeared, covered.
