क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमः पार्थ नैतत्त्वय्युपपद्यते । क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यं त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परन्तप ॥२- ३॥

klaibyaṃ mā sma gamaḥ pārtha naitattvayyupapadyate । kṣudraṃ hṛdayadaurbalyaṃ tyaktvottiṣṭha parantapa ॥2- 3॥

क्लैब्यं klaibyam (n. acc. sg.), = cowardice.; मा ma (prohibitive), = not, never.; स्म sma, = indeed, in truth.; गमः gamas (2nd sg. aorist sUbjunctive .*gam), = thou shouldst undergo, thou shouldst par-take of, thou shouldst entertain.(klaibyaṃ mā sma gamaḥ, do not become a coward.) पार्थ partha (m. voc. sg.), = Son of Prthavi, frequent epithet of Arjuna, referring to his mother Prthavi or Kunti.; न na, = not.; etad (n. nom. sg.), = this.;नैतत्त्व tvayi (loc. sg.), = in thee.; उय्युपपद्यते upapadyate (3rd sg. pr. indic. mid. upa. *pad), it is suitable, it is possible, it is according to rule.; क्षुद्रं kṣudraṃ (n. acc. sg.), = base, low, despicable.; हृदय hṛdaya (n.), heart.; दौर्बल्यं daurbalyam (n. acc. sg.), = lack of strength, weakness, impotence. (hṛdayadaurbalyaṃ, n. acc. sg., fainthearted- ness.);त्यक्त्वा tyaktva '(gerund .Jtyaj), = abandoning, having abandoned.; उत्तिष्ठ uttistha (2nd sg. imperative act. ud .*stha), = stand up! arise!; उत्तिष्ठ paramtapa (m. voc. sg.), = Scorcher of the Foe.
