तस्मान्नार्हा वयं हन्तुं धार्तराष्ट्रान्स्वबान्धवान् । स्वजनं हि कथं हत्वा सुखिनः स्याम माधव ॥१-३७॥

tasmānnārhā vajaṁ hantuṁ dhārtarāṣṭrānsvabāndhavān । svadžanaṁ hi kathaṁ hatvā sukhinaḣ sjāma mādhava ॥1-37॥

तस्मान्न tasmān (abl. sg.), = from this, therefore.; न na, = not.; arhah (m. nom. pI. from *arh) , justified, deserving, entitled to.; वयं vayam (nom. pl.), = we.;  हन्तुं hantum (infinitive *han), = to kill, to smite.; धार्तराष्ट्र dhartarastran (m. acc. pl.), = the Sons of Dhrtariistra.; सबान्धवान् svabandhaviin (m. acc. pl.), = own kinsmen, own relatives.;  svabāndhavān (m. acc. sg.), = own people. हि hi, surely, indeed.; कथं katham (interrog.), = how?; हत्वा hatva (gerund .*han),= killing, having killed.; सुखिनः sukhinah (m. nom. pl.), = happy, possessing happiness.; स्याम syama (1st pI. optative act. *as), = we should be, we might be.;  माधव madhava (m. voc. sg.), Descendant of Madhu, progenitor of the Yadavas, Krishna's race; thus an epithet of Krishna.
