| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-46) |
तपस्विभ्योऽधिको योगी ज्ञानिभ्योऽपि मतोऽधिकः ।कर्मिभ्यश्चाधिको योगी तस्माद्योगी भवार्जुन ॥ ६-४६॥ |
tapasvibhyo'dhiko yogī jñānibhyo'pi mato'dhikaḥ । karmibhyaścādhiko yogī tasmādyogī bhavārjuna ॥ 6-46॥ |
तपस्विभ्यो = tapasvibhyo (m. abl. pl.), to the ascetics.; अधिको = adhiko (m. nom. sg.), superior, going be-yond.; योगी = yogi (m. nom. sg.), yogin.; ज्ञानिभ्यो = jñānibhyo (m. abl. pl.), to the knowing, to the learned.; अपि = api. also, even.; मतो = mato (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle *man), thought, thought to be, believed to be.; अधिकः = adhikas (m. nom. sg.), superior, going be-yond.; कर्मिभ्यश् = karmibhyaś (m. abl. pl.), to the active, to those active in ritual.; च = ca, and.; ऽधिको = adhikas (m. nom. sg.), superior, going be-yond.; योगी = yogi (m. nom. sg.), yogin.; तस्मात = tasmāt (m. abl. sg.), from this, therefore.; योगी = yogi (m. nom. sg.), yogin.; भवा = bhava (2nd sg. imperative act. *bhu), be!; अर्जुन = arjuna (m. voc. sg.), Arjuna. |
A yogi is superior to ascetics, superior even to men of knowledge, and he is also superior to ritualistic performers. Therefore O Arjuna! Be a yogi. ||6-46||
