| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-14) |
प्रशान्तात्मा विगतभीर्ब्रह्मचारिव्रते स्थितः ।मनः संयम्य मच्चित्तो युक्त आसीत मत्परः ॥ ६-१४॥ |
praśāntātmā vigatabhīrbrahmacārivrate sthitaḥ । manaḥ saṃyamya maccitto yukta āsīta matparaḥ ॥ 6-14॥ |
प्रशान्त = praśānt (m. p. pass. participle pra *sam), quieted, made peaceful.; आत्मा = ātmā (m. nom. sg.), self.; विगत = vigata (p. pass. participle vi *gam) , gone away, disappeared, banished, banishing.; भी = bhi (f. nom. sg.), fear, apprehension, fright, dread. (विगतभी vigatabhī, f. nom. sg. KD cpd., banishing fear.); र्ब्रह्मचारिव्रते = brahmacārivrate (n. loco sg.), in brahmacarin vow, in pledge of chastity, in vow of con-tinence.; स्थितः = sthitaḥ (m. nom. sg.), established, standing.; मनः = manaḥ (n. acc. sg.), mind, thought.; संयम्य = saṃyamya (gerund sam *yam) , controlling, subduing.; मच्चित्तो = maccitto (m. nom. sg.), thinking of me, thoughts fixed on me.; युक्त = yukta (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle *yuj), concentrated, disciplined, steadfast, yoked.; आसीत = āsīta (3rd sg. optative mod . *tis), he should sit.; मत्परः = matparaḥ (m. nom. sg.), devoted to me, hold-ing me as highest object. |
Keeping the body, head, and neck straight and steady with firmness and looking only at the tip of his nose without seeing elsewhere. Situated in the vow of Brahmacharya (free from sex life), being fearless, calm and vigilant in mind and having subdued the mind, one should fix it (mind) on Me thinking of Me as the Supreme Goal in life. ||6-13,14||
