| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-13) |
समं कायशिरोग्रीवं धारयन्नचलं स्थिरः ।सम्प्रेक्ष्य नासिकाग्रं स्वं दिशश्चानवलोकयन् ॥ ६-१३॥ |
samaṃ kāyaśirogrīvaṃ dhārayannacalaṃ sthiraḥ । samprekṣya nāsikāgraṃ svaṃ diśaścānavalokayan ॥ 6-13॥ |
समं = samam (m. acc. sg.), balanced, equal, erect.; काय = kāya (m.), body.; शिर = śir (n.), head.; ग्रीवं = grīvaṃ (m. acc. sg.), neck. kāyaśirogrīvaṃ, m. acc. sg., body, head and neck.); धारयन = dhārayan (m. nom. sg. pr. causative parti-ciple *dhr), holding, placing.; अचलं = acalam (m. acc. sg.), motionless, unmoving.; स्थिरः = sthiras (m. nom. sg.), steady, immovable.; सम्प्रेक्ष्य = samprekṣya (gerund sam pra *iks), looking at, concentrating the eyes on.; नासिका = nāsika (f.), nose, nostril.; अग्रं = agram (n. acc. sg.), foremost point, tip.; स्वं = svam (m. acc. sg.), own, of oneself.; दिश = diśa (f. acc. pl.), regions, quarters, direc-tions.; च = ca, and.; अनवलोकयन् = anavalokayan (m. nom. sg. pr. indic. causa-tive act. participle an ava"*lok), not looking toward, not looking. |
Keeping the body, head, and neck straight and steady with firmness and looking only at the tip of his nose without seeing elsewhere. Situated in the vow of Brahmacharya (free from sex life), being fearless, calm and vigilant in mind and having subdued the mind, one should fix it (mind) on Me thinking of Me as the Supreme Goal in life. ||6-13,14||
