| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-12) |
तत्रैकाग्रं मनः कृत्वा यतचित्तेन्द्रियक्रियः ।उपविश्यासने युञ्ज्याद्योगमात्मविशुद्धये ॥ ६-१२॥ |
tatraikāgraṃ manaḥ kṛtvā yatacittendriyakriyaḥ । upaviśyāsane yuñjyādyogamātmaviśuddhaye ॥ 6-12॥ |
तत्रै = tatra, there.; एकाग्रं = ekagram (n. acc. sg.), directed to a single point, concentrated on a single object.; मनः = manas (n. acc. sg.), mind, thought.; कृत्वा = krtva (gerund *kr), making, having made, having performed.; यत = yata (p. pass. participle *yam), controlled, restrained.; चित्त = citta (n.), thought.; इन्द्रियक्रियः = indriyakriyas (m. nom. sg.), sense activity, activity of the senses. (yatacittendriyakriyaḥ, m. nom. sg. BV cpd., he who controls the activity of thought and the senses.); उपविश्य = upaviśya (gerund, upa "/vis), seating him-self, sitting.; आसने = asane (n. loco sg.), on the seat.; युञ्ज्य = yuñjyāt (3rd sg. optative act. ..*yuj), he should practice, he should concentrate, he should yoke himself, he should fix himself.; योगम = yogam (m. acc. sg.), Yoga, to Yoga.; आत्मा = atma (m.), self.; विशुद्धये = viśuddhaye (f. dat. sg.), to purification, to-ward purification, for the purpose of puri-fication. (atma-visuddhaye, f. dat. sg. TP cpd., for purfication of self.) |
In a clean place with kusa grass, a deerskin, and a pure cloth placed one above the other, one should not raise the seat too high nor too low and thus being situated on the seat, concentrating the mind, one must control the thoughts and actions of the senses and must practice yoga for the purification of the self. ||6-11,12||
