| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-11) |
शुचौ देशे प्रतिष्ठाप्य स्थिरमासनमात्मनः ।नात्युच्छ्रितं नातिनीचं चैलाजिनकुशोत्तरम् ॥ ६-११॥ |
śucau deśe pratiṣṭhāpya sthiramāsanamātmanaḥ । nātyucchritaṃ nātinīcaṃ cailājinakuśottaram ॥ 6-11॥ |
शुचौ = śucau (f. loc. sg.), in clean, in white, in un-defiled, in radiant, in virtuous, in holy, in pure.; देशे = deśe (m. loc. sg.), in a place, in a region, in a spot.; प्रतिष्ठाप्य = pratiṣṭhāpya (causative gerund prati *stha), establishing, causing to fix, locating.; स्थिरम = sthiram (m. acc. sg.), firm, steady.; आमासन = asanam (n. acc. sg.), seat.; आत्मनः = atmanas (m. gen. sg.), of himself, for him-self.; न = na, not.; अत्युच्छ्रितं = atyucchritam (m. acc. sg. p. pass. participle ati ud *sri), raised too high, too much el-evated.; न = na, not.; अतिनीचं = atinlcam (n. acc. sg. from ati ni *anc), too low, too short, too mean, too base.; चैला = caila (m.), cloth.; अजिन = ajina (n.), skin of an antelope.; कुश = kuś (m.), kusa grass, a kind of fragrant grass.; उत्तरम् = uttaram (n. acc. sg.), covering, ultimate layer, bottom. (cailājinakuśottaram, n. acc. sg. BY cpd., whose covering is cloth, antelope hide and kusa grass.) |
In a clean place with kusa grass, a deerskin, and a pure cloth placed one above the other, one should not raise the seat too high nor too low and thus being situated on the seat, concentrating the mind, one must control the thoughts and actions of the senses and must practice yoga for the purification of the self. ||6-11,12||
