| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-2) |
यं संन्यासमिति प्राहुर्योगं तं विद्धि पाण्डव ।न ह्यसंन्यस्तसङ्कल्पो योगी भवति कश्चन ॥ ६-२॥ |
yaṃ saṃnyāsamiti prāhuryogaṃ taṃ viddhi pāṇḍava । na hyasaṃnyastasaṅkalpo yogī bhavati kaścana ॥ 6-2॥ |
यं = yam (m. acc. sg.), which.; संन्यासम = saṃnyāsam (m. acc. sg.), renunCIatIon, throwing down, casting aside.; इति = iti, thus.; प्राहु = prāhu (3rd pI. perfect act. pra *ah with pres-ent meaning), they call, they say.; योगं = yogam (m. acc. sg.), Yoga.; तं = tam (m. acc. sg.), it, this.; विद्धि = viddhi (2nd sg. imperative act. *vid), know! learn!; पाण्डव = pāṇḍava (m. voc. sg.), Son of pāṇḍav, ep-ithet of Arjuna.; न = na, not.; हि = hi, indeed, truly.; संन्यस्त = saṃnyasta (m.), not renounced, without re-nounced.; सङ्कल्पो = saṅkalpo (m. nom. sg.), volition, desire, purpose. (asamnyasta-samkalpus, m. nom. sg., with- out renounced purpose.); योगी = yogi (m. nom. sg.), yogin.; भवति = bhavati (3rd sg. pr. indic. act. *bhu), he is, he becomes.; कश्चन = kaścana, anyone, anyone whatever. |
O Pandava! What is called sannyasa know it to be same as yoga, for, no one
can become a yogi without forsaking desires of the world (will). ||6-2||
