| Bhagavadgíta,-6. ātmasaṃyamayogaḥ आत्मसंयमयोगः , (S.-1, Ch.-6, V.-1) |
श्रीभगवानुवाच ।अनाश्रितः कर्मफलं कार्यं कर्म करोति यः । स संन्यासी च योगी च न निरग्निर्न चाक्रियः ॥ ६-१॥ |
śrībhagavānuvāca । anāśritaḥ karmaphalaṃ kāryaṃ karma karoti yaḥ । sa saṃnyāsī ca yogī ca na niragnirna cākriyaḥ ॥ 6-1॥ |
श्रीभगवान = śrībhagavān (n. nom. sg.),the Blessed Lord,the Blessed One.; उवाच = uvāca (3rd sg. perfect act. -Jvac), he said, he spoke; अनाश्रितः = anāśritaḥ (m. nom. sg. p. pass. participle an ii -*sri) , not resorting to, not depending on.; कर्मफलं = karmaphalam (n. acc. sg.), action fruit, the fruit of action.; कार्यं = kāryaṃ (m. acc. sg. gerundive -Jk1:), to be done, prescribed duty.; कर्म = karma (n. acc. sg.), action, ritual action.; करोति = karoti (3rd sg. pr. indic. act. -Jk1:), he does, he performs.; यः = yah (m. nom. sg.), who.; स sa (m. nom. sg.), he, this.; संन्यासी = saṃnyāsī (m. nom. sg.), renouncer, thrower down.; च = ca, and.; योगी = yogī (m. nom. sg.), yogin.; च = ca, and.; न = na, not.; निरग्नि = niragni (m. nom. sg.), without fire, without consecrated fire, (as BY cpd.) he who is ithout a consecrated fire.; न = na, not, nor.; च = ca, and.; अक्रियः = akriyas (m. nom. sg.), without sacred rites, without ritual action, (as BY cpd.) he who is without sacred rites. |
The Supreme Lord Sri Krishna said: A person who performs his duty without aspiring for its result is both a Sannyasi and a Yogi. Not the one who does not light the sacred fire and also does not perform any action. ||6-1||
